Les Estrambords 2022

AOP Cairanne

Encépagement

Estrambords 2022, which means « Beyond the edges » in Provençal, is an historic cuvée of the Domaine but is an exception in the range.

As its name indicates, there are no rules in the making of this cuvée.

The highlighting of a grape variety, a terroir or a test of breeding, can be the subject of an Estrambord.

In 2022 we made it from grapes from the mountain terroirs in Cairanne, among the most prestigious of the vineyard.

These are old vines located on the place called Ebrescade and les Combes.

Les Estrambords 2022 is a blend of: 80% of Grenache and 20% of Mourvèdre.

Vignes et rendement

The average age of the vines is 70 years for the Grenache and 40 years for the Mourvèdre.

The vines are located on very high slopes between Cairanne and Rasteau.

The Ebrescade district, which reaches an altitude of 327 meters, is influenced by sedimentary deposits.

These old vines have the advantage of producing concentrated grapes, that give richness and complexity to the wine.

The Combes district on the slopes of Cairanne is composed of sand and oyster marl, giving suppleness and freshness to the wine.

The blend of these two terroirs gives the wine complexity and elegance.

Very small quantities are produced on these soils between 15 and 20 hectoliters by hectares.

Elevage

The Grenache, rich in alcohol and fruit, reflecting the 2022 millesime, have been blend and ageing in Foudre with the Mourvèdre to sweeten the alcohol and contribute to the structure and the length in mouth of

the wine.

The 2022 Estrambords was matured for 18 months in 24 hl foudre.

This wine was vinified in a natural way without adding any input.

Addition of 15 mg of sulfite/Hl before bottling only.

Stored at a stable temperature in an underground cave until it is marketed.

Dégustation

Intense ruby color. Complex nose with notes of jammy black fruits, spices and

mocha. Wine with a very good volume, beautiful expressions of black fruits, black olives and sweet spices (cinnamon). The tannins are velvety and the whole is very well balanced by a fresh touch of liquorice.

This wine should be drunk within 10 years.
